Together they establish <strong>what<\/strong> is to be accomplished (work objectives) and <strong>how<\/strong> the work is to be done (core competencies).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Establishing Performance Expectations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Work Objectives:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It is recommended that employees have three to six work objectives. <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/presentation\/d\/1UvhDVJ99NvJUGALlNB-1YyLK1x5VgCNh\/edit#slide=id.p1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ESDC\u2019s Corporate Guidance on Work Objectives<\/a> \ud83d\udd12 \u2197\ufe0f outlines how objectives cascade down and provides tips on how to establish SMART work objectives.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1Hv6cTPDHvqtTT2SCcGLZPPpCiu58vXZI\/edit?gid=1033488406#gid=1033488406\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Examples of SMART work objectives<\/a>: \ud83d\udd12 \u2197\ufe0f this excel document provides generic objectives and indicators for 10 functional areas (administration, advisory services, communications, finance, people management, HR, program delivery, project management, and service delivery.) These examples can be customized to your needs and requirements.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Refer to the <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/14dJtzlUeIXBlf4y4gVaxCugNiRkZa4QG\/view\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">checklist<\/a> \ud83d\udd12 \u2197\ufe0f  to help you establish effective performance work objectives.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/intranet.canada.ca\/hr-rh\/ptm-grt\/pm-gr\/pmc-dgr\/bi-ic-eng.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Employee Core Competencies<\/strong><\/a> (T) \ud83d\udd12 \u2197\ufe0f \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You will also be required to establish performance indicators for the four core employee competencies. This <a href=\"https:\/\/iservice.prv\/eng\/college\/competency-dictionary\/competencies.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ESDC Competency Dictionary<\/a> (T) \ud83d\udd12 \u2197\ufe0f articulates positive and negative behaviours related to these core competencies. The behaviour indicators can be used as building blocks to show how employees are to achieve their work objectives.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/treasury-board-secretariat\/services\/professional-development\/key-leadership-competency-profile\/examples-effective-ineffective-behaviours.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Key Leadership Competencies<\/strong><\/a> \ud83d\udd12 \u2197\ufe0f for non-EX People Leaders\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>There are six key leadership competencies.
