If they are not responsive, check their calendar and, if necessary, text or call them.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you don\u2019t want to interrupt a colleague before they sign on or after they\u2019ve signed off, you can schedule a message to send at a later time:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Slack<\/strong>: click the arrow beside the Send paper plane button to schedule for later.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Teams<\/strong>: right click on the Send button and choose the date and time you\u2019d like to send your message.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Gmail<\/strong>: Schedule Send as a drop-down of the Send button.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Outlook<\/strong>: Delay Delivery under Options in a new email.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For scheduling meetings across more than one time zone, you can use this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeanddate.com\/worldclock\/meeting.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">meeting planner<\/a>. \u2197\ufe0f<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For a quick visualization of up to 4 time zones at once, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldtimebuddy.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">this tool<\/a> \u2197\ufe0f will keep you aligned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-keep-slack-organized\"><strong>Keep Slack organized<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>Consider the channel purpose before posting:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>#general<\/strong> is for <strong>work-related<\/strong> content that is relevant to the <strong>entire<\/strong> organization, but does not require action\/response. Example of posts to be shared in this channel could include:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Welcome to new members<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Announcement of an internal promotion\/job opening<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A general work-related question for the organization (ie: Who do I go to for\u2026.?)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>#announcements-annonces <\/strong>are for urgent announcements or requests that need to be actioned by all or most of CDS. These posts are limited to 3 every 24 hours, and should be bilingual.<strong> <\/strong>Examples of posts to be shared in this channel can include:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Internal all team event announcements and follow up notes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>IT, Payroll, HR, Comms blackout announcements or tip sharing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Holidays and themed weeks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Strategy, org, budget news and changes in senior leadership<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Announcements from leadership on external crises&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Content warnings<\/strong>: for all posts on sensitive subjects, it is necessary to include a content warning (ie: war, violence against women, police brutality) as the first post, with the body text linked below in a thread (\ud83e\uddf5)\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Consider this for posts in the #diversity-inclusion, #news, or other channels.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Use threads<\/strong> for discussion for lengthy posts (\ud83e\uddf5).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Keep your message as short as possible to achieve your purpose<\/strong>:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Start messages with the purpose and any action required then provide background in a thread, as appropriate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Please thread any messages longer than two lines.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collapse snippet previews that are auto-generated for links to save on space.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Recall that direct messages are deleted after <strong>30 days<\/strong> and team-wide channel messages after <strong>90 days<\/strong> (if you need to refer to info later, please save it to the Google Drive or here on the Intranet)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Other useful channels<\/strong>:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/gcdigital.slack.com\/archives\/CAG3312TD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">#diversity-inclusion <\/a>\ud83d\udd12 \u2197\ufe0f<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/gcdigital.slack.com\/archives\/CPBMQP5BL\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">#watercooler<\/a> \ud83d\udd12 \u2197\ufe0f<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your manager will also share any channels you\u2019ll need to join for your work, and there are also a number of channels you can join for learning or socializing. Use your judgment to determine the right balance of responsiveness vs. focus time. When in doubt, consult the people you work with regularly or your manager.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Participate in conversations as you have time \u2014 we do not expect instant responses.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Read direct messages within one working day and respond, if appropriate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In general, there\u2019s no expectation to respond to messages outside of your working hours.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you\u2019re sending a message that needs immediate response, include the deadline.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you\u2019re posting a message that needs to be acknowledged, ask folks to give you a&nbsp; \ud83d\udc4d or \ud83d\udc40 or \u2714 if you would like your message acknowledged.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If your team keeps User Manuals, include a line about which hours you typically work and from which time zone.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-adopt-asynchronous-communication\"><strong>Adopt asynchronous communication<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Video conferencing does not have to be the default for every meeting:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Remember, video fatigue is real! And, physical cues can be difficult to catch in a virtual setting.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Before booking a meeting, ask yourself: Can this be managed through a Slack or Teams message or email? Is a meeting necessary?
