Public Service Pride Week
As we celebrate Pride Season across Canada, we are excited to announce the launch of the program for Public Service Pride Week (PSPW), happening August 19 to 23. Under the theme “Unity in Diversity,” we reaffirm our commitment to intersectionality and inclusion. We come together to recognize, learn from, celebrate, and honour the diverse experiences and identities of our colleagues.
PSPW will kick off with an inspiring video! Tune in to the PSPN LinkedIn page at 1:00 pm on August 19 to hear public servants share what pride in the workplace means to them. There are 30 events happening during the week across the country, both virtually and in person.
The official program for #PSPW2024 is on the GCconnex page. Check regularly for the latest updates and registration details. General information will also be available on the PSPN’s website, but note that all registration links are not made public and therefore only available on GCconnex.
Practical Productivity
The Canadian Innovation Centre for Mental Health in the Workplace is proud to welcome Hélène Desruisseaux from Telus Health to deliver this session on Practical Productivity.
People commonly understand productivity as a variety of things in a variety of fields. Being productive is not just limited to finishing your work, but organizing your tasks, building relationships within the office, and being able to manage your time effectively. Everyone can learn ways to be more productive. This workshop will give you tips and pointers on how to be more productive at work each day.

Panel Discussion: Procuring with Integrity: The Essentials for Public Servants
Managers across the federal public service are expected to uphold integrity and adhere to core values in all aspects of procurement activities. CSPS is pleased to announce an event for current and prospective managers, as well as business owners, focusing on best practices in procurement.
Join us for a discussion with experts from the Office of the Comptroller General and the Office of the Chief Human Resources Officer, alongside a senior departmental manager. This panel will explore the crucial role that managers play in reinforcing ethical standards and values within the procurement process.
This event offers a valuable opportunity to understand how procurement policies intersect and to navigate complex situations with a robust ethical framework. Panelists will provide practical advice and share personal experiences on applying ethical principles in procurement, including managing conflicts of interest and ensuring transparent decision-making.

Health Canada’s innovative Decompression Program can support the mental health and well-being of managers, employees and executives who have experienced significant workplace stress.
Program features
- Two-week program taken as Education Leave (Code: 620)
- Virtual sessions
- Led by mental health professionals
- Includes psychoeducational training and time away, plus a one-on-one check-in
- Offered on a cost-recovery basis
Participants report feeling refreshed, gaining new coping skills, and appreciating the opportunity to connect with colleagues facing similar challenges.
How to access the Program:
- Join an interdepartmental session: You and/or members of your team can complete the Registration Form to get started. We recommend separate sessions for those in direct reporting relationships.
- Organize a cohort: We can work with you and your management team to organize sessions just for your organization, branch or directorate.

Seeking Managers for Classification Toolkit Focus Group
Do you find conversations with your classification advisor challenging?
The Office of the Chief Human Resources Officer (OCHRO) wants to change that. The Organization and Evaluation of Work unit in OCHRO is developing a toolkit for new managers and is looking for user input. Participation includes attending a 45-minute virtual focus group session being organized early in September 2024 and then answering a short questionnaire. If you are interested in sharing your perspectives on the wonderful world of classification, please contact Jennifer Cornfoot at (Jennifer.cornfoot@tbs-sct.gc.ca) by August 23, 2024, with your name, department, language preference as well as the length of time you have been a manager.

New NMC Regional Lead for the Quebec and Nunavut region
We are thrilled to introduce the newest member of our NMC Secretariat team – Sophie Laflamme! As our vibrant community continues to grow, Sophie brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to lead NMC initiatives in the Quebec and Nunavut region starting August 1, 2024.
Sophie joins us from Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC), where she was President of the Disability Employee Network (DER) and a middle management for over 17 years. Apart from her professional achievements, Sophie especially enjoys travelling, volunteering with vulnerable populations in Quebec and abroad, walking in nature and enjoying life’s little pleasures!

Are you looking for a practice-based development activity? Our Co-Development Group offers an opportunity for you to connect with your peers, break isolation, and develop your leadership skills.
A Co-Development Group is a unique training approach where members help each other grow by sharing real-life situations. Participants take turns acting as clients, presenting their challenges, and as consultants, offering insights and asking probing questions to deepen understanding and enhance capacity for action. This method fosters a collaborative learning environment where everyone benefits.

The Reality of First Nations in Quebec
There are 11 Indigenous Nations in Quebec, each with their own identity, history, language and culture. They continue to preserve and revitalize their ancestral cultures, while dealing with a variety of contemporary issues.
This event will focus on the reality of First Nations in Quebec and will feature a panel discussion on ways to preserve and revitalize ancestral cultures. Topics will include reappropriation of language and identity, strategies to promote closer collaboration between public institutions and First Nations, and cultural safety, which aims to create the conditions necessary for First Nations people to feel safe when receiving services.
