When will I be eligible for health benefits?
Coverage starts 1 month after you start work.
What is covered?
Prescription drugs, vision care | 80% coverage |
Eyeglasses or contact lenses | up to $275 every two years |
Psychologist | up to $2000 per year |
Physiotherapist | up to $500 |
Massage Therapist, Osteopath, Naturopath, Podiatrist/Chiropodist | up to $300 per year |
Chiropractor, Speech-Language Pathologist | up to $500 per year |
Nursing services | Up to $15,000 per year |
Out of province emergency medical expenses | 100% coverage |
Dental care | 90% coverage for routine care, 80% coverage for surgery or repair of injury |
Parental leave top up | 90% of employee’s salary for up to 12 months |

Is coverage extended to the rest of my family?
Yes, your married or common-law spouse as well as your dependant children are covered for medical and dental expenses.
Is there a pension?
Yes. All employees contribute to the pension plan. If your total time employed by the public service is less than 2 years, you will be entitled to a return of your contributions, plus interest. Should you be employed for more than 2 years, your contributions will be locked in and you will be eligible for a pension (including a contribution from the employer) when you retire.
