NMC Managers Connect 2023 – Ottawa (NCR)

In May 2023, Camille was appointed as Executive Director, National Managers Community (NMC), where she will work to promote the needs and interests of federal managers to public service decision-makers. Prior to this, Camille was Assistant Director, Learning and Product Development Team within the Respectful and Inclusive Workplaces Directorate at the Canada School of Public Service. She has been with the School since 2018, having worked in various positions both operational, in Curriculum Management as part of the Registrar’s Office, and more strategic, as Chief of Staff to the Vice-president of the Public Sector Operations and Inclusion Branch.

Camille joined the federal public service in 2008, having previously worked at the Department of Canadian Heritage and the National Capital Commission, in a number of management and project management roles. Camille holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, as well as professional certification in HR Management and lives in the National Capital Region.

Julie Wills recently joined the National Managers’ Community as the Regional Lead for the National Capital Region (NCR). Julie’s home organization is Justice Canada, where she has held various management and supervisory roles in the learning and professional development area. Transformative work experiences have included being the resource person for Justice’s Advisory Committee on Indigenous Peoples and managing the National Mentoring Program. She is a certified EQ-i 2.0 coach, and is in the process of obtaining her International Coaching Federation certification through the Adler Graduate Professional School. She is passionate about playing an advocacy, communication and coaching role to serve managers across the federal government.

Barbara has worked in the field of adult education for almost 30 years. She is very passionate about coaching, facilitates and advises on peer coaching circles and has been a Certified Integral™ Coach since July 2022. Most of her career with the federal government has been spent at the DND, but she has spent the last two years with the NMC as the Atlantic Regional Lead.  Barbara holds a Masters’ degree in Adult Education from Mount Saint Vincent University in Nova Scotia.

Jason is an experienced public servant, community builder, and communicator with a career spanning over twenty years. He has held leadership positions in the Federal Public Service, advising various ministers and senior officials in various federal organizations.

Jason is a passionate advocate for a safe and inclusive workplace, and he has been at the forefront of driving a cultural shift across the Federal Public Service. His mission is to create an environment where individuals can thrive and be their authentic selves, truly making a positive impact.

He is currently Visiting Senior Advisor at the Canada School of Public Service, focusing on 2SLGBTQIA+ Inclusion, while also continuing to champion the Public Service Pride Network.

Jason graduated from the University of Ottawa and received an Award of Excellence from the Association of Professional Executives of the Public Service of Canada (APEX) in 2020.

Riri Shen is Chief legislative Counsel of Canada and Deputy Assistant Deputy Minister of the Public Law and Legislative Services Sector at the Department of Justice, where she supervises the delivery of legislative services, including the drafting of bills, orders and regulations for the Government of Canada.  She is also the Department of Justice Champion for Racialized Persons.

From 2017 to 2019, she was the Director of Operations for Democratic Institutions under the Governance Secretariat at the Privy Council Office, where her team provided a full range of departmental services to the Minister of Democratic Institutions. Before her assignment to PCO, Riri was the Director of the Transport Canada Regulations Section at the Department of Justice, following her turn as the Director of the National Defence Regulations Section.

She received her undergraduate degree from Amherst College in Massachusetts, followed by an LL.B. from the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Common Law. She is the mother of three adult children, loves reading, movies and music and is a member of Big Soul Project community choir.

Robert began his Federal Public Service career as a student with Parks Canada Agency in 1992 as a historical interpreter in Québec City while working on his Master’s degree at Laval University and working for CBC Radio and Television as a journalist and movie critic from 1991 to 1998.

In 2001, Robert moved to the Agency’s National Office where he would take on the role of Manager of the Web Content Team and then that of Manager of Program and Services Communications. In 2006 he joined the Agency’s CEO’s Office as Senior Program Advisor; and after a 9-month stint as the CEO’s Chief of Staff enters the world of HR and has occupied various executive positions since: as Director of Leadership and Learning; Director of Recruitment and Retention; and Director of Workforce Management and Leadership. In 2015, after 23 years with Parks Canada, Robert moves to the Department of Justice where he worked as Director, Corporate HR Planning, Programs and Systems and then as Senior Director, Talent Acquisition and Development.

Following his 7 years with Justice, Robert recently moved to one of the organizations under the Public Safety Canada portfolio as Director General of Recruitment, Staffing and Talent Management.
