Moderators and Speakers Bios

Camille Beausoleil, a/Executive Director, National Managers’ Community (NMC), Canada School of Public Service

In May 2023, Camille was appointed as Executive Director, National Managers Community (NMC), where she will work to promote the needs and interests of federal managers to public service decision-makers. Prior to this, Camille was Assistant Director, Learning and Product Development Team within the Respectful and Inclusive Workplaces Directorate at the Canada School of Public Service. She has been with the School since 2018, having worked in various positions both operational, in Curriculum Management as part of the Registrar’s Office, and more strategic, as Chief of Staff to the Vice-president of the Public Sector Operations and Inclusion Branch.

Camille joined the federal public service in 2008, having previously worked at the Department of Canadian Heritage and the National Capital Commission, in a number of management and project management roles. Camille holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, as well as professional certification in HR Management and lives in the National Capital Region.

Jason Bett, Senior Advisor on 2SLGBTQIA+ Inclusion at the CSPS and Champion of the Public Service Pride Network

Jason Bett is an experienced public servant, community builder, and communicator. With a career spanning over twenty years, he has held leadership positions in the Federal Public Service, advising various ministers and senior officials in federal organizations such as Innovation Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED), Industry Canada, the Office of Canada’s Chief Information Officer and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. Jason is a passionate advocate for a safe and inclusive federal public service and has been leading the employee-led Public Service Pride Network since its establishment in 2018. He holds a political science degree from the University of Ottawa and received an Award of Excellence  from the Association of Professional Executives of the Public Service of Canada (APEX) in 2020. Jason is currently Visiting Senior Advisor at the Canada School of Public Service, focusing on 2SLGBTQIA+ Inclusion, while also continuing to champion the Public Service Pride Network.

Dr. John L. Plews, Professor of German & Special Advisor for International Schools, St. Mary’s University, Halifax

Dr. John L. Plews is Professor of German and Special Advisor for International Schools at Saint Mary’s University, Halifax, and Director of the Canadian Summer School in Germany. Dr. Plews earned doctorates in German (2001) and Secondary Education (2010) from the University of Alberta. He is the recipient of the Father Stewart Medal for Excellence in Teaching (2021), the Sheryl McInnis GLBTQ Community Award (2003), and two Edmonton Pride Awards (2002, 1996). As a researcher, he specialises in language learning and identity formation in the context of study abroad.
