Official Languages Day is a time to celebrate Canada’s linguistic diversity and cultural heritage, and serves to reflect the rich cultures prevalent across the country. Join CSPS on September 14 to explore how languages serve as windows to different realities and opportunities.

International Day of Sign Languages (IDSL) Public Service Event
Learn more about the importance of sign languages, Deaf culture, and accessibility during a virtual event organized by Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC).
The event will be moderated by Lorenzo Ieraci, PSPC Co-Champion for Diversity and Inclusion, and Assistant Deputy Minister of the Policy, Planning and Communications Branch. Keynote speaker, Chief Accessibility Officer Stephanie Cadieux, will speak of the importance of preserving sign languages as part of linguistic and cultural diversity. And a panel of sign language users with lived experience will discuss accessibility barriers, common misconceptions and biases.
You are invited to send your questions in advance and you can also show your support by wearing blue during the IDSL event.

Flipping the Script on Performance Anxiety in the Workplace
Have you ever experienced performance anxiety at work? Having the knowledge, tools and strategies to make performance anxiety work for you, rather than against you, can make all the difference in individual and team performance.
Dr. Sean Richardson, an experienced coach, will share his insights on how managers and leaders can practice key strategies to transform anxiety into helpful energy, which can ultimately enhance performance.
Participants will gain a better understanding of how to be proactive in their team environment to reduce performance anxiety and how to respond effectively when a team member is experiencing heightened stress.

Consultation Questionnaire – Development of a Learning Path on Official Languages Rights and Obligations
Managers/Supervisors you are invited to complete this questionnaire to actively contribute to the development of a learning path on official languages rights and obligations.
Official languages are a central pillar of your obligations. As a manager, you are responsible for ensuring that the Canadian public is served in both official languages, and that your employees can work in the official languages of their choice.
In order to better equip you to achieve this responsibility, an interdepartmental working group, coordinated by the Official Languages Centre of Excellence within the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat, is developing a learning path on this subject for managers/supervisors.
You have until September 20, 2023, to complete the questionnaire. Your feedback is going to be used to respond effectively to your real needs. If you are interested in contributing further, please contact us at OLCEInformationCELO@tbs-sct.gc.ca.
Managers’ discussion group for feedback on the GC Workplace Accessibility Passport application
Do you have lived experience with or ideas about accessibility and workplace accommodations? We need your feedback on plans for the Government of Canada (GC) Workplace Accessibility Passport.
The Office of Public Service Accessibility (OPSA) at TBS is developing a digital GC Workplace Accessibility Passport that will be a centralized application. The Passport application is scheduled for release in 2024 in the TBS Applications Portal.
While we develop this application, we would value your input as a manager. A small discussion group (less than 10 managers) will have 1 brief meeting in early October with a presentation and interactive questions. This will help us learn about what would best support you as a manager, and about whether the planned features and layout of the Passport application meet your needs.
About the current Passport
The Passport helps streamline the workplace accommodation process so that employees with disabilities can get the accommodation tools and supports they need in a timely manner.
You or your employees may have used the current Passport in Microsoft Word (see the Supporting your employees information for managers).
We encourage managers from diverse lived experiences and from across Canada to participate. If interested, please write to OPSA’s Passport team by Friday, September 22 cob: AccessibilityPassport.Passeportdaccessibilite@tbs-sct.gc.ca. If you cannot participate in a session, written feedback and questions are also welcome via reply to that address.

Conversation Corners Between Managers: an In-Person Networking Event
The NMC is happy to be partnering with Public Services and Procurement Canada’s Managers’ Community on this in-person event in the National Capital Region (NCR).
Come exchange with your peers, in an informal environment, about areas of key concern to Public Service managers, such as recruitment and retention, accessibility, and onboarding. This networking event will host “conversation corners”, at which participants are invited to share observations, challenges and best practices on key themes. Free refreshments included.
Participants are welcome to drop in, stay for as long as their schedule permits, and rotate through the different corners/themes. Each corner will be facilitated, to assist with the discussion, and a summary document – capturing best practices – will be shared with all participants following the event.
